This IDYLS Workshop Featured the Following Presentations:


Presentation One: Information Literacy: Changing Your Library Paradigm to a Media Center Paradigm ~ Ruth LaFrance, Lenox Library Association
Ruth led a discussion on the changing role of the librarian and the importance of "thinking & planning library services outside the box". Among the handouts that Ruth presented was the September 2003 School Library Journal article titled Why Isn't Information Literacy Catching On? by Debra Lau Whelan.

Presentation Two: Information Literacy And The Importance Of School & Library Cooperation~ Kim DiLego, North Adams Public Library
Kim prepared an Information Literacy display and
bibliography.

Presentation Three: Information Literacy Skills For Young Children ~ Donna Colson, Westfield Athenaeum
Donna showed how to make information literacy training fun with puppets, story aprons, and outfits complete with Dewey Decimal labels.

Presentation Four: Information Literacy: What's Happening In the Middle School?~ Joanne Meyer, Westfield South Middle School
Joanne shared the library skills training that she conducts for students and teachers at the Westfield Middle School.

Presentation Five: Springfield City Library's Information Literacy LSTA Grant Project ~ Jean Canosa Albano, Springfield City Library
Jean concluded the formal presentations with an overview of her library's recent LSTA grant project on Information Literacy titled Kids Click @ the your library.
